Customer Success Manager, Performance Marketing

Remote (Worldwide)

Persona is recruiting a Customer Success Manager to oversee advertiser accounts, optimize campaign performance, and manage client relationships.

About the role

We are hiring a Customer Success Manager to manage a book of growing advertiser accounts at a performance-marketing / commerce-media company. You will own mid-market and test-stage accounts day to day ($10K-$20K pilots and steady monthly spenders) while supporting senior team members on the largest enterprise accounts. This role is hands-on and operational, built for someone who lives inside an Ads Manager, uses AI agents and SQL/Hex to pull performance data, and is the first person to notice when an account is overspending, underdelivering, or broken.

You must be technically comfortable — not an engineer, but able to set up a postback, test a tracking link, and explain to a client in plain language why their CPA moved. Ideal candidates have 2-4 years in performance marketing, affiliate, commerce media, or ad tech and want to grow by proving they can run accounts cleanly, then taking on bigger ones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take new advertisers from signed IO to live in Ads Manager: campaigns, ad groups, targeting, offers, creatives, budgets, and CPA targets at the ad group level
  • Build and maintain offer and creative variations so the optimization model has enough to test, including surface-specific assets (banners, native formats, partner placements)
  • Set up and QA conversion tracking: server-side postbacks, MMP events (Singular, AppsFlyer, Branch), and event configuration before launch
  • Test tracking links and macros, confirm conversions fire correctly post-launch, and escalate reporting discrepancies to Engineering with clear examples
  • Monitor spend, pacing, CTR, CVR, and CPA daily across your book; catch overspend and underdelivery (especially across month boundaries and weekends) before the client does
  • Make routine optimizations within guidance — retire low performers, refresh copy, adjust CPA targets — and flag bigger changes to your manager
  • Use AI agents, Claude, and Hex to pull performance cuts, diagnose drops, and draft client recaps quickly
  • Act as day-to-day contact for your advertisers: check-ins, monthly recaps, quick answers, and plain-language explanations of why spend or CPA moved
  • Prepare data and talking points for QBRs, support senior teammates in running them, and re-engage lapsed advertisers with relevant offers
  • Turn client feedback and platform friction into clear feature requests and bug reports for Product and Engineering, and keep internal playbooks (postback docs, onboarding checklists, QA steps) current

Required Qualifications

  • 2-4 years in customer success, account management, or campaign operations — ideally in performance marketing, affiliate, commerce media, or ad tech
  • Fluent in performance metrics: CPC, CPA, CTR, CVR, pacing, and IO cap management are part of your everyday vocabulary
  • Technically curious — you've worked with tracking links, pixels, or postbacks, or you can follow API and integration docs on your own
  • Comfortable with daily account hygiene across many budgets, launches, and client threads simultaneously
  • Strong written communication; can draft a concise client recap and explain a performance change without jargon
  • AI-forward: already uses AI tools to work faster and wants to get better at it
  • Proactive: flags problems early, asks for help when stakes are high, doesn't wait to be told to check an account
  • Fully fluent in English
  • Ability to work U.S. business hours (PT, CT, or ET)
  • Ability to commit long-term and full-time

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with a mobile measurement partner / MMP (Singular, AppsFlyer, Branch, Adjust, Kochava)
  • Direct experience with an affiliate or performance network (Impact, Rakuten Advertising, Pepperjam, Awin, CJ Affiliate, Partnerize)
  • Exposure to regulated advertisers (financial services, sports betting, gaming, insurance)
  • Working knowledge of SQL and notebook tools (Hex, Mode, Hex, Deepnote, Jupyter)
  • Familiarity with server-side tracking standards (S2S postbacks, conversion APIs, Meta CAPI, Google sGTM)
  • Experience with mobile app install campaigns, DTC lead-gen, or app event optimization
  • Prior experience at an ad network, affiliate network, DSP, or performance agency

Tools & Technologies

  • Ads Manager platforms, Singular, AppsFlyer, Branch, Adjust, Kochava, Impact, Rakuten Advertising, Pepperjam, Awin, Hex, Mode, SQL, Looker, Google Analytics 4, Postman, Charles Proxy or Proxyman, Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, Claude, ChatGPT

Core Competencies

  • Operator mindset; lives inside the Ads Manager
  • Technically curious without needing to be an engineer
  • Highly organized across many budgets, launches, and QA checks
  • Proactive problem-solver; catches issues before clients do
  • Clear communicator; translates performance moves into plain English
  • AI-fluent and leverages tooling to move faster
  • Calm under end-of-month pacing pressure
  • Service-minded; makes clients confident in the numbers
